An introduction to Core Stability

                              CORE STABILITY
WHAT IS CORE STABILITY ?
·      What is core ?
  • Core  relates to the bodily region bounded by the abdominal wall ,the pelvis, the lower back and the diaphragm

·      What is stability?
The ability to stabilise the body during movement
So,
Core stability is
Core stability means that the trunk of your body-your core-is strong and able to support the rest of your muscles as you move. When your core is not stable because its muscles are weak, you may lose your balance more easily. And you may hurt yourself more easily when you make sudden movements or movements you're not used to.
MUSCLES OF CORE STABILITY :

·        transversus abdominis
·         internal and external obliques
·        quadratus lumborum
·     the diaphragm
WHAT IS IT’S AIM?
The aim of increasing core stability is to effectively recruit the trunk musculature  and then learn to control the position of lumber spine during dynamic movements.
  • INDICATIONS FOR CORE STABILITY TRAINING
  •  Low Back Pain
  • .    Back Problems and Injuries
  • .      Fitness
  •    .  Herniated disc
  • .    Low Back Pain
  •     Physical Therapy

CONTRAINDICATIONS
1.       This exercise is certainly contraindicated for anyone at risk of low-back injury or re-injury due to the high spine loads and the extended posture.
2.       Compression intolerant lumber spine pathology
3.       Patients with sub acute or chronic low back pain with no clinical signs suggesting the presence of spinal instability

CORE STABILITY

EXERCISES
2 things are necessary for performing core stability exercises
·         Correct breathing (diaphragmatic breathing)
·         Neutral spine position (maintaining  normal curves of spine)

Exercises are:
·         Abdominal crunch
·         Bridging
·         Segmental rotation
·         quadruped
exercises on ball
